Club News January 2012

Coiste na nÓg held a club social night on Friday night last in Clonard Community Centre. The night was a huge success for all involved. Team mentors, parents and over 120 kids from the club, U6 to U12, enjoyed the night’s entertainment which included a puppet show and disco.
Our U-17 footballers played Taghmon in the Martin Cullen cup on Sunday and despite dominating the second half lost out on a score of 1-8 to 1-5. Tommy Walsh kicked some excellent scores while Stephen Cullen in goal, pulled off some fine saves throughout. Well done to all concerned and hopefully with some hard work and commitment in the coming year, the lads will enjoy the success they deserve.

Sunday January 15th  saw our minors take to the field in the O’ Loughlin Cup when they took on another town team ,  St Johns Volunteers. The lads made a bright start to the game but went behind to an early goal. They responded well with a superb point from play from the impressive Tommy Walsh who added another shortly afterwards from a placed ball. Walsh then had the responsibility of scoring from the penalty spot after energetic captain, Ian McDonald, was fouled in the area. He calmly obliged and put Clonard in the lead. Some great attacking football from the lads resulted in further scores including a great individual point from Dean Kehoe. The lads went in at half time leading on a scoreline of 1-5 to 1-1. The second half was a half of goals but unfortunately at the wrong end. Despite some excellent and spirited play from Clonard the Volunteer lads managed to score three crucial goals in the second half. Our lads kept fighting to the end and despite a powerful run and great point from Ciaran Kavanagh, came out on the wrong end of a 1-8 to 4-3 scoreline. Well done to all the lads on great display of football and hopefully next weekend will see a result that has long been deserved.

Pre season adult and minor training for football and hurling takes place in Whites High Performance Gym every Friday at 9.00pm and on Saturday mornings in Wexford Racecourse at 11.00am.
